The summary section (often misleadingly called a “conclusion”) is a short recap of what you have said in the essay. You might want to provide a slightly different version of your thesis statement as the first sentence of this paragraph and then provide a few sentences that sum up what the body section said in support of the thesis statement. The summary section should be only one paragraph long for a short paper, but can be longer for longer papers. (Some instructors, like me, even think that summary sections are unnecessary for short papers.)

If you provide examples of good essays to your children, they will immediately get ideas on creating their own papers. They won’t understand what you are trying to say if your approach to teaching is based solely on explanations. You need to be as hands-on as your kids need during the development of their first essays. Once they develop an increased confidence in their abilities, they will be able to work on their own. It is easy to find essay examples online and use them to show your kids what works and what doesn’t work in essay writing.

It is important to integrate the teaching of social skills with the curriculum. Teachers can justify class time to teach and monitor the skills because students need to know the parameters and the expectations of acceptable classroom behavior early in the school year. Also, most states include standards related to interpersonal skills in their state requirements. Teachers need to take time early in the school year as well as whenever needed to teach, monitor, reteach, and assess students' knowledge and use of the skills necessary for their success in school and life.
